6 Healthy Snacks to Go

When you start feeling hungry, do chips and cookies call your name? Is this even truer when you're in a hurry to get out the door?

The best way to keep from falling off the healthy food wagon is to get rid of temptation by staying prepared.

Make sure you’re stocked up with snacks that are healthy and delicious. Today I'm sharing 6 of my favorite healthy grab-n-go snacks. Plan to always have them in your kitchen.

And don't worry, I have you covered even when life gets crazy and there's no time for snack prep.

Top 6 Grab-N-Go Healthy Snacks

1. Apples and Almond Butter

young woman working while eating healthy snacksWe all know an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apples are a high fiber food. They have no fat and lots of nutrients.

When you add almond butter (just make sure it has no added sugars or chemicals) into the mix, you give yourself a great sweet and salty taste mix.

You also give yourself a protein boost that will keep you feeling full longer.

2. Spicy Avocado Toast

Avocado toast feels like a cheat, but it’s a quick and easy snack that gives you lots of health benefits.

Avocado is a superfood. It’s loaded with fiber, low in sugar, and chock full of vitamins and minerals. It’s a great way to get the healthy fats that control blood sugars.

Mix half an avocado with a tablespoon of your favorite prepared salsa, then spread it on a piece of Ezekiel bread.

You’ll end up with a snack that helps lower cholesterol and keeps you full while boosting your protein intake.

3. Baked Sweet Potatoes and Greek Yogurt

Here’s another great snack that will feel like a treat and has tons of benefits.

Pre-bake a few sweet potatoes for later.

When you’re hungry you can grab one and top it with a tablespoon of Greek yogurt.

Together they give you protein, vitamins A and C, and minerals.

4. Cantaloupe and Cottage Cheese

These two foods were the standard diet fad during the 1960s and 1970s, with good reason.

They’re the perfect combination of sweetness and creaminess, potassium and protein.

Cut a cantaloupe in half and scoop in a ½ cup of cottage cheese for a yummy treat that will keep you feeling full for hours.

5. Cucumber Hummus Boats

Remember when you were a kid and your mom would make you fun finger food?

Make snacking fun again by cutting a cucumber in half, scraping out the seeds, then filling it with your favorite hummus.

Add a tomato or sweet pepper for added flavor. It’s a healthy snack that’s high in water content as well as hunger-satisfying protein.

6. Deviled Eggs Made with Greek Yogurt

protein-filled deviled eggs healthy snack to goPeople love deviled eggs. Go to a party where there’s a tray of deviled eggs and they disappear fast, yet nobody makes them for themselves!

Treat yourself by hard boiling a half dozen eggs, then scoop out the yolks and mix them with a scoop of Greek yogurt and your favorite seasonings before refilling them.

I also like to add avocado to this recipe for a more festive treat!

They’re a great, protein-filled snack to grab on the go, and they’ll feed your hunger fast.

Too busy for the “deviling” part? Boiled eggs make a perfect snack on the run too!

And don't worry, getting caught on the go with nothing prepped happens to everyone (me included) so I made a quick video showing you the snacks I pick up at a local drug store when life happens.

Yours in health and happiness,

Danette
