There’s no question that this year shook most of us up. No one could have prepared for what 2020 brought, and the changes — and challenges — we’d be navigating. But 2021 is stretching out before us, and, with it, a renewed hope for a healthy, happy new year. Here are some tips to keep you on track no matter what 2021 may throw our way.
Sometimes outside circumstances feel like they’re steering us off course, but remember, YOU are the captain of your ship. At any point, and in any situation, YOU get to decide how you react. You can sit down in defeat and give up on your goals, or you can stand in your own power and see those goals through.
If you desire ultimate health, a vibrant lifestyle, and the confidence of feeling and looking good in your body, set your intentions for exactly that. What we focus on expands, so putting your focus on your health and wellness conditions your mind to prioritize these things. Even when challenges come at us, we can come back to our intentions and drop into them, knowing that living a healthy lifestyle no matter what’s going on around us is for our highest good.
PICK A THEME OR PHRASE
Choosing a word or a phrase to guide your year has become a popular practice, and for good reason. It’s a great reminder of what we’d like to point back to at the end of the year, and say, “I did it!”
The key is to choose something that is adaptable in the event outside forces barge in. (Ahem, we’re looking at you, lockdowns.) So, for example, anyone who chose “Gym Queen” or “Dance Class Hero” was probably quite disappointed they couldn’t fulfill that year’s theme. Keeping it broad allows for flexibility in case something unexpected comes up. (Remember, the key is to be adaptable, not to give up!)

CREATE (AND LIVE INTO) AFFIRMATIONS
Affirmations are a great way to support your intention for a healthy year, since they carry a positive vibration that’s a match to what you’re calling into your life. Writing them down (there’s power in the pen), posting them around the house, and reciting them often can help rewire your brain to expect a great outcome… and then do what it takes to get that outcome.
Some affirmation examples might be:
2021 is my healthiest, happiest year yet. I have never felt so great!
I show up for myself every day. I am committed to my health goals and to feeling amazing in my body.
I eat healing foods, move my body, and meditate daily. I prioritize my health and wellness and I’m thriving because of it.
