The 4 Best Foods For Women Over 40

There are a lot of superfoods out there that are amazing for our bodies and can help us reach our ultimate health. I talk about them often in my live videos on Facebook and Instagram, here on this blog, and over on YouTube. Be sure to check those places often, but today, I’m going to focus on 4 foods I believe women over 40 should add to their daily diets, starting today.

Ginger Root

Ginger is an ancient remedy that’s been used for thousands of years. It’s well known as a stomach soother, but did you also know ginger:

  • May calm muscle soreness and reduce swelling over time
  • Is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant
  • Is great for gut health and may help alleviate digestive issues
  • May boost immunity and help fight colds and other viruses

It also adds a great zip to most recipes and is easy to integrate into your diet.

My favorite way to consume ginger is through my favorite ginger tea. (Here’s the recipe.) If you don’t want to take the time to make the tea, you can get the same benefits in a more convenient way through Earth Echo’s Turmeric + Ginger capsules.

Seeds

Seeds are one of my favorite ways to add a health boost to whatever I’m eating, not to mention an added crunch.

I put them in smoothies, add them to oatmeal and soups, and top my salads with them. I even make pudding with chia seeds!

Here’s a more in-depth breakdown on these tiny wonders, but the bottom line is you can add protein, fiber, and antioxidants to your daily diet with one quick sprinkle. Try adding some seeds to your menu today.

Dark Leafy Greens

If it’s green (and edible), I want it in my body. It’s that simple. Green foods are full of life and it’s my belief they awaken your cells. They’re packed with vitamin K, vitamin C, folate, calcium, beta carotene, and so much more, so making them part of your healthy-eating journey makes sense no matter what your age is… but especially when you’re over 40.

I love nothing more than a great big salad made of dark greens and sprinkled with berries, seeds, and lean protein like chicken, but I’ve also been known to add spinach to my smoothies, soups, and even popsicles. Once you blend them up, the taste is virtually undetectable, so don’t be shy. Add some greens to your next smoothie. You won’t even know the difference (except in your health).

Avocados

Catching an avocado when it’s at its peak ripeness can be tricky, but boy is it worth it. These creamy and delicious fruits feature healthy fats that keep your skin and hair healthy, plus they’re an incredible source of vitamins. They even contain potassium.

Since they tend to keep you fuller for longer, avocados can also aid in fat loss and hunger control. I love them chunked up in salads or recipes or even added to smoothies for extra texture and creaminess.
